Necole Stephens Spotlight
Necole Stephens is our Spotlight Healer for one simple reason she has given, not from her life pain, but through it. It requires someone with a deep understanding of love to turn from her own grief toward compassion for others. Losing her son Zak, on March 8th, 2010 was the most devastating day of her life. Yet, a year later she has managed to create a non-profit organization in his name, The Zachary M. Tompkins Memorial Fund because she followed the love she has for her son and held on to the spirit of his life. She knew he wasn’t dead and he spoke his purpose, his dream, his message through words and signs only a mother could hear. In honest truth, she could have shut down. She could have given up in despair, but Zac would never allow his mother to give up because giving up wasn’t an option. And definitively wasn’t in their nature. Together, they were going to give this tragedy a purpose greater than just being a story of sorrow. They were going to make a difference. They were going to win!
Their story is an ever-evolving story of how a bond between mother and child carries on, how strength in love moves us toward the impossible, and how we can learn to give through the pain in order to heal beyond it.
In simple, Necole inspires goodness in us all, but deeper she evokes real thought. What can we learn from her story? How can we, like her, turn a tragedy into something that can help more than just our own hearts to heal? How is it that some people never recover from tragedy and others grow in love from it?
Necole will never be over the physical loss of her son. It goes against the nature of a mother, but she has managed to give something to those around her that’s greater than her loss. It is the ‘gift of life’ given through her choice to embrace the love of her son over the loss of him. This gift is something I hope she consciously acknowledges in her day to day life because it is a rare gift we, as humans, can give to each other.
Thank you Necole for reminding us of the gift of life we share and how it never dies. It just carries on in the love we give…
Again, thank you. You truly deserve this spotlight.
